Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: “Passion for God’s house will consume me.”
When Jesus’ parents saw him, they were amazed. His mother said to him, “Son, why did you do this to us? Your father and I were very worried about you. We have been looking for you.” Jesus said to them, “Why did you have to look for me? You should have known that I must be where my Father’s (God’s) work is!” But they did not understand the meaning of what he said to them.
— Luke 2:48-50
Looking at these two Scriptures as well as the fulfillment of these, we see Jesus had a growing sense of purpose as he grew older. While he would apprentice in Joseph’s carpenter shop, Jesus felt the pull to be about his Heavenly Father’s business. An Old Testament passage that was associated with Jesus’ cleansing of the Temple later in his ministry reads, “Passion for God’s house burns within me.” That passion was with him even at 12 years old. Young people can be just as passionate about Jesus and His business as us adults. This millennial generation are seeking to make great impact in the world we live in, we want and should give them a purpose and sense of belonging.
Fulfillment at work, fulfillment at home… Millennials want it all and they want it fast. Unlike many Moderns, Millennials want to be home for dinner, and want to feel like their 9-5 job has a real purpose. They are constantly seeking purpose in what they do for a living and at the same time want to know how their job is helping them get to the top. They’re constantly questioning where they are going next and why. That is, which position they will hold next. If your organization can’t tell them that, they’ll seek out another firm that will.
What is real passion. Passion for what? How do we get passionate about the life and ministry of Jesus. For some and it seems to be a growing trend, we get passionate about a growing trend in christian circles of motivational type of (spoken word) type of poems and lyrics, but this lasts only a short time. Although it can be filled with great theology, and extreme passion and truth, it lasts for a while. When I was a young christian teen, I was waiting and living for my next “spiritual high” so that I can be on “fire” again or waiting for the next big thing. What is true passion? I really believe that passion and purpose go hand in hand. I believe that an awakening within me had begun with true transfer of DNA from the ministry of http://jlife.org.za as their country director as well as the Global youth Initiative http://gyi.cc/ and the on site training recieved in Israel on 2 occasions. This really infused and created within me a passion not only for the land of Israel, but also in the life of Jesus and his focus, and intentionality of what His purpose was. Jesus modeled this for us. The only true and lasting passion comes from a true love relationship with Jesus.
1 John 2:6 “Those who claim to live in him must walk as Jesus lived.” Understanding and reading about Jesus and living and walking in the footsteps of Jesus and living out your faith daily will help you understand my first heading.
Have you ever spent time with passionate people. People who are excited about their product, or their mission? It is crazy! That person for me is http://gregstier.dare2share.org/ You come away charged, infused, enthused, pumped. His passion for this generation of teens reaching every teen is really infused because of a lifetime of living out the priorities of a love relationship with Jesus and understanding his mission, and vision for the teens in the USA. We are trying to have 3 events in South Africa called lead the cause https://www.golivedare.co.za/lead-the-cause/, and our theme is “Fierce”, we seek to really get young people fired up, and passionate, firstly for their love relationship with Christ, because when they are excited, pumped and on board with the same mission and vision of Jesus, they will really become an infectious Gospelizer. We have 4 different speakers who I believe are really passionate about this generation.
One thing that really defines a true leader is consistency to the mission, and vision and lifestyle, with good bouts of rest in between.. I spoke about having a laser focused vision, this is true of consistency. Jesus constantly reminded the disciples about what he had come to do, and many times they had forgotten. Jesus even reiterated the great commission or the Cause 5 different times,
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and earth has been handed over to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.
45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
Jesus continually sought out to be consistent in His mission and vision, and modeled that. Here are some consistent values that Jesus lived out:
Let me ask, how do we measure up. What are some of the areas we need to be consistent in. Let us live and strive to be passionate about our King, and living out His priorities, in our life?
